Lonavala is an important hill station in the state of Maharashtra.
It is popularly known as the jewel of the Sahyadri Mountains. Lonavala is
set amongst the sylvan hills of the Western Ghats and is a popular gateway
from Mumbai and Pune. It also serves as a starting point for tourists
interested in visiting the famous, ancient Buddhist rock cut caves of Bhaja
and Karla, which are located near this hill station. It also has an
important Yoga center near it, for the health conscious traveler.

little town has many interesting sights to offer Lonavala Lake,
Bhushi Dam, Tigers Leap, Ryewood Park, Tungarli Dam and Barometer Hill
among many others. However, the most notable tourist sites are the ancient
Buddhist caves of Karla and Bhaja. These caves are considered as examples of
some of the oldest and best-preserved chaityas (chapels) and viharas
(monasteries) in India, with fine sculptures and exquisite carvings.
For
hiking enthusiasts, Lohagad and Visapur forts are nearby. The maximum and
minimum temperatures expected during 2nd week of March are 33° and 12.5°
Celsius respectively.
